2020 Partners announced!

We are pleased to announce that the following 9 museums and organisations will be hosting the second cohort of Museum Futures trainees. Now that we have host organisations recruited, recruitment for their trainees will begin in Fall 2019 for placements to start January 2020:

  • Birmingham Museums Trust

  • Bristol Culture/ South West Museum Development

  • Derby Museums

  • Hastings Museum & Art Gallery

  • Horniman Museum and Gardens

  • Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum

  • Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery

  • Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums

  • The British Museum

How did we recruit host partners?

We used an open selection process in order to reach partners who may have not previously been involved in a British Museum skills-sharing initiative. In advertising and recruiting partners to host trainees, the National Programmes team used their extensive contacts as well as cross-sector bodies and publications to offer the opportunity to as wide a range of organisations as possible. Potential partner museums were required to complete a simple proposal form. The BM uses an open selection approach regularly when advertising touring exhibitions and sharing expertise opportunities.

This model of partner recruitment should generate a network that includes museums of different scales and governance models, with a mixture of levels of expertise, specialism and experience. The process will aim to achieve a wide geographical spread of partners across the UK.
