Recently I was invited to be on the British Museum podcast, a monthly magazine-style show featuring interviews with people from across the museum. I was asked to talk about Museum Futures, and my work managing the programme, because one of the people involved in producing and editing the podcast just happens to also be a Museum Futures trainee. I was incredibly nervous to be recorded, but I am a big fan of the new podcast and I ultimately agreed, on the condition that Alfie would also speak about his experience as the Museum Futures trainee at the British Museum.
My first podcast experience would up being truly enjoyable. The podcast hosts Sushma (Curator of South Asian collections) and Hugo (Keeper of Prints and Drawings) were warm and welcoming and kept the conversation flowing even when my nervousness got the better of me. Sian (Senior Producer and Alfie’s supervisor) took over the audio recording so that Alfie could be interviewed as well. And afterward, Alfie did a fantastic job of editing all the pieces together.
So please take a listen to this, and all the episodes. There are only five so far and I highly recommend starting from the first episode so you can listen to my favorite interview with Nick Kendall (Facilities Manager), who has worked at the BM longer than I have been alive and reveals some of the mysteries of the building.
