Museum Futures - Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum Trainee

The Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum is located in Market Square, the historic centre of Lisburn, and last year over 158,000 visitors enjoyed the Museum’s exhibitions, events and education programmes. The Museum collects objects, and houses archives relevant to the history of Lisburn, Castlereagh, Lagan Valley, and the Irish linen industry.

About the Role:

The Museum Futures trainee will help digitise and catalogue aspects of the Museum’s collections, archive, and reference library for visitors, online and internal museum use. For example, photographing linen damask napkins and entering relevant data into a spreadsheet. The chosen candidate will receive full training on cataloguing and digitising assets (for example, using spreadsheets, taking photographs and uploading data to a website), and gain experience working with a range of software tools, e.g. collections management.

The Lisburn trainee will be paid a bursary of £13,350 (tax free) and work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Cultural Heritage.This is a full-time placement for one year.

The taster day is from 10am to 1pm and will take place at Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum, Market Square, Lisburn, Northern Ireland. Potential applicants will be able to explore what it is like working at the museum, learn about around our collection of objects and speak with staff. Attendance is encouraged but not required in order to apply.
